First private number plates auction of 2009

The auction season of 2009 for private number plates got underway on the 28th of January and lasted for 3 days. 1600 lots were on offer and bids were taken by telephone, by post, in person at the venue or over the internet by pre-registered bidders. Only 271 lots did not reach their reserve figures and were therefore withdrawn. The sale was held at Whittlebury Hall, Northamptonshire one of various locations selected to give everyone a chance to attend an auction during the year regardless of their geographical location. The next sale will be held at Ardencote Manor , Warwickshire. The most expensive registration sold was 1O which cost over £210000 when all taxes and fees were added to the winning bid while the least expensive numbers went for just £250. Asian names continued to do well with 651 NGH bringing a staggering £6700 for what is just a 3 + 3 registration number while S57 NGH was equally overvalued at £5200, there seems to be more demand than supply for this type of registration which is forcing prices up.Some funny numbers to be sold were S114 GGY ( Shaggy ) which achieved £2100, FOX 333Y at £1600 and S71 NKS ( Stinks ) which brought 1500. There is another sale planned for late in March in Warks. After which there will be a further 4 such sales brining the total for the year to 6.
